Press Release

23 August 2011

SILKAIR TO FLY TO BANDUNG AND CHANGSHA IN OCTOBER

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will add two new destinations to its network come October 2011.

Scheduled passenger services to Bandung, Indonesia will begin on 11 October 2011, with scheduled passenger services to Changsha, China beginning on 31 October 2011, the latter subject to regulatory approvals.

The Bandung flights will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays with Airbus A319 aircraft. This will increase to five times weekly during the Northern Winter season that takes effect from 30 October 2011.

Changsha will be served by three weekly services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with Airbus A320 aircraft. Detailed flight schedules are listed in the Annex.

“Bandung and Changsha are the 37th and 38th destination respectively in the SilkAir network. We are truly excited to see our network expanding further. Earlier this year, on 28 February, we started scheduled services to Pekanbaru, Indonesia and on 1 August Kolkata, India. This will be followed by Koh Samui on 27 September,” said Chief Executive SilkAir, Mr. Marvin Tan.

“Asia looks set for further growth and SilkAir, as the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, is well placed to meet the rising demand for air travel in the region. Both Bandung and Changsha have something to offer everyone, whether you’re travelling for leisure or business,” he added.

The third largest city in Indonesia, Bandung is a popular weekend getaway for its cool climate, attractive factory outlet shopping and lush golf courses. There are also a number of tourist attractions nearby Bandung, including the Tangkuban Perahu volcano crater and the Kawah Putih volcano lake.

Changsha, the capital city of Hunan province in south-central China, is famous for its culinary delights and features a number of points of interest that are an integral part of the country’s revolutionary history. Changsha is also the gateway to the picturesque city of Zhangjiajie, located on the border of Hunan province. Within this city lies the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 for its unique sandstone pillars, pristine waters, lush vegetation and a variety of flora and fauna.

Customers interested in these two destinations are advised to note that the new flights may not be immediately available in the computer reservations system due to the lead-time required in making system updates.
