Sejak Suriah sedang menghadapi konflik antara pihak dan oposisi ini sudah lebih dari setahun telah menyita perhatian Dunia. Pada tanggal 22 Juni 2012 Pesawat F-4 Phantom milik AU-Turki ditembak oleh Suriah, lalu pesawat itu jatuh dan menyebabkan kedua pilot Turki Kapten Gokhan Ertan dan Lt Hasan Huseyin Aksoy di atas laut. Pada hari berikutnya mayat mereka ditemukan di kedalaman 1.260 meter.
